The Death Card

Chagrin Falls, Ohio

How embarrassing to be shuffling the pack of Tarot cards and have the death card dribble out of the pack onto the floor. It grimaced up at me like a great dark secret.

"Well, not to worry, that just means change, and we knew that was coming," my friend said.

The river of life is constantly moving and sometimes I would like to stop on an island and hang out for a while, but that never seems to happen for very long. Our little island was the farm, but we can't stay here forever. This summer, we will be moving to Cleveland, Ohio.

New house, new friends, new job... all this newness gets old after a while. But, I am thinking that this is it. Maybe this is the last big move. Not that I will ever be anything less than a Nomad, but even a Nomad likes to come back to certain spots now and again.

  1. Mmmm, it happened to me too...that darn ol' card. I moved from Kyushu to Kansai! I already know that this will not be my last spot of residence even in Japan. I haven't traveled as far as you have but I think I understand that feeling of wanting to be on an island for a bit even though you may be a Nomad at heart.

Remember that you have a group of friends with you wherever you go ;-)

  3. Change is in the air. We are moving also, which you know, from the city to the country. I just wish it wasn't taking so long. Never been a nomad myself, not in my cards this time around. I imagine having a home base to return to would be nice though. I always like coming home after traveling.

  4. Wishing you the best in your move. It seems such things are always more complicated and take more time and money than we plan for. I hope you will find people there to make you welcome.

  7. I sort of relish moving but also relish a sense of "HOME"
There is an awful trite bumper sticker idea but with lots of truth in it:
    BLOOM WHERE YOU'RE PLANTED
which I take to mean: make the best of wherever you are
I sort of like the idea.
    Peace

  8. I'm kind of feeling the same way. But then I have to remember how much I wanted to experience different places not that long ago. But it is hard to start over in new places. It's kind of nice to be back where our friends and family reside, I have to admit.

Can't wait to hear Cleveland stories, though.

  9. In my first experience with Tarot cards, I also drew the Death card. I was horrified until the teacher told me what the card meant. I didn't move, but I was going through a time of change...it turned out this change was a good one.

I wish you very much happiness in your move to Cleveland:~)

  10. Glad to be called your friend. It seems I suck more wisdom out of you than you do from me, so this is good knowledge.

    Change is FUN.

  11. I know of Chargrin Falls. Used to live in Chardon, Ohio, Dayton, too. Cleveland is as good a place as any to put down roots! Best luck with the change.

  12. Goodbye to the little donkeys? How sad!

I hope I get to see you sometime before you move. Will you be coming to DC?

  13. One of my tarot teachers used to say that for her, the Death card is about a time when things need to change, but we just don't want to face it.

  15. People often ask a person where home is. This just seems like a programmed question. For some people, home is not a perceived geographical place. It is a feeling associated with how you feel at a given moment. Those people who detach from material things, from physical situations, are able to move more easily without fear of uncertainty. They sense love everywhere.
