Hunters in the Jungle

Maruni Sanctuary Lodge

I'm glad they are not hanging real animal heads a la 'Hemingway.'

"Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter. You will meet them doing various things with resolve, but their interest rarely holds because after the other thing ordinary life is as flat as the taste of wine when the taste buds have been burned off your tongue." (from 'On the Blue Water' in Esquire, April 1936) - Hemingway

OKALI  DOKALI!
What a scary thought.

I like to hunt with my binnies, binoculars.

  2. Frankly, I think Hemingway was overrated! I'd much rather see these kinds of animal trophies- art. Great photos.

  4. butternut - there's something compelling about seeing nature. i love to photograph it. i have wondered if the hunters actually spent time looking at the trophies after they were mounted or if they were simply there to give them bragging rights. steven

  5. My boys and I just returned from our big adventure. While we were gone we visited Biltmore, where real animal head trophies hung high up on the wall above the banquet tables. These were award winning trophies of animals whose head and antlers stood taller than an man. They were purchased to impress the guests at Biltmore. It seems a crime, to me, to kill such a magnificent beast for sport.

  6. I saw some disturbing footage of great white hunters about 70 years ago shooting 'ferocious' tigers in India and bringing them home as trophies....disgusting.

  7. Wow Paul, that must have really made an impression if it has been haunting you for 70 years.
